African American Read-In

Thursday, February 27, 2020 - 9:30 am to 1:30 pm

The 14th Annual African American Read-In  at UNI celebrates African American authors, illustrators and literacy during Black History Month. First graders attend to hear individualized reading by UNI students, faculty, staff and celebrity readers. This year's featured speaker is Ty Allan, an award-winning children's book author, literacy advocate, publisher and motivational speaker.

The UNI event is part of the National African American Read-In which is sponsored by the Black Caucus and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and endorsed by the International Reading Association. More than one million readers from all races, ethnic groups and states participate in the national read-in annually.  It is held in conjunction with the African American Children and Families Conference at UNI.
