Are you a current Grade 6-8 educator who is interested in implementing OpenSciEd in your classroom? Join us this summer for an engaging, face-to-face OpenSciEd course on the UNI campus. Led by national and state OpenSciEd certified trainers, you’ll learn the instructional routines of OpenSciEd and explore available instructional units, while networking with the trainers, UNI faculty and fellow science educators.

Workshop seats are limited. Registration is required.

The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Science Education Update Conference for current and future teachers is an one-day conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that focuses on issues and topics related to PreK-12 science and STEM featuring breakout and workshop sessions as well as exhibits and keynote presentations.  Participants will be provided the instructional resources and strategies that can be implemented in the classrooms.

The conference focuses on issues and topics related to Grades K-12 science and STEM featuring breakout & workshop sessions, networking focus groups, and exhibits as well as access to instructional resources and strategies that can be implemented in the classroom.

state of Iowa as well as UNI faculty and students are expected to participate.

UNI Science Education will host the 2016 UNI Science Education Update Conference for Iowa secondary science teachers. The conference will focus on how the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), recently adopted in Iowa, can be implemented in science classrooms with presentations, informal networking and exhibits, tours, breakout sessions and  discussions throughout the day. Teachers will be provided with instructional resources and strategies to back to their schools. There will be information on future professional development programs, course offerings and outreach opportunities.

The College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences offers one-day Update conferences that feature presentations on the latest research in a discipline as well as research on innovative teaching methods and materials; informal discussions with colleagues, university faculty and secondary science teaching majors on relevant issues; and upcoming professional development opportunities at UNI.

STEM Career Conferences are day long events for middle and high school counselors and STEM teachers. The day includes opportunities to hear from local business professionals about regional current and future STEM careers, tours of innovative labs and departments where Iowa's young adults are prepared for the workforce, networking with community college and university faculty about articulation from middle school through graduate school and more. Tours of the Tallgrass Prairie Center and the Technology Center will be offered.
