Gayle Rhineberger-Dunn will present "CSI Effect, DNA Discourseand Popular Crime Drama." She will explore how DNA evidence is presented in four fictional crime dramas, the context in which it is discussed and the impact DNA has on case clearance in the fictional dramas.

 

Wednesday, October 5, 2016 - 10:00 am to 11:30 am

Leila Rod-Welch, library, will present information on how to find books and scholarly articles using the library's website and Interlibrary Loan, and utilize the library's advanced search capabilities to access Catalog, One Search!, numerous subject databases and Google Scholar through your UNI subscription. Information on the Liaison Librarian Services, Rod Library's one-on-one consultation services will also be presented.

Topic areas that will be discussed include low-stress "get it started" strategies, tips on matching your strengths to what graduate programs want, ideas for developing and organizing the document and instruction on polishing the writing for maximum impact.

Presented by Deb Young, Languages and Literatures, attendees will learn how to transition and develop these communication skills from your role as a student to a professional. TAGS features an overview of the graduate application processes followed by the Graduate Faculty Panel sharing their insights on how to build a strong application. Academic Learning Center staff will present information on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

NGSO is the first in the "Building Graduate Community" 2016‐17 Professional Development Series sponsored by the Graduate College. The event includes opportunities to learn about resources to support graduate student success. Fifteen offices are scheduled to participate in the Campus Resource Fair from 3 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a welcome by Kavita Dhanwada, Graduate College. There will be presentations by Christina Geweke, Office of Business Operation, on how students can manage their university bill and Leila Rod‐Welch, Rod Library, on using the library like a graduate student.
