Classroom Conversations on Race: A Panel Discussion

Wednesday, April 3, 2019 - 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Panelists: Gwenne Berry (Chief Diversity Officer), Carissa Froyum (Sociology), Shuaib Meachum (Literacy Education), Robert Smith (Executive Director, UNI-CUE)

Panelists will share perspectives on navigating difficult conversations about race in UNI classrooms and other learning spaces. Fresh on our minds are 1) the recent decision at the University of Iowa to cancel a workshop focused on white privilege, 2) a dispute at Augsburg College over the use of the n-word in class, and 3) transparency concerns at UNI related to the hosting of rap artist Waka Flocka.
