The Grout Museum of History & Science is the venue for the inaugural display of a traveling exhibit created by the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education on the contact between Native Americans, European explorers and traders, and American settlers in Iowa. The exhibit focuses on different conceptions and uses of land on the part of Native Americans, Europeans and Americans that shaped the interactions of these groups. "Whose Land Is This?" highlights federal, state, county and other sites related to Native Americans in Iowa and the history of exploration, colonization and settlement in the state.

Natalie Tran is the featured guest lecturer for the second annual 2019 Carlton-Mellichamp Lecture in Education. Her keynote presentation is: "Cultivating Social Emotional Awareness through the Practice of Mindfulness." Tran is a recognized educator and scholar in educational leadership, secondary and STEM education, and currently a Professor of Educational Leadership and Chair of the Department of Secondary Education at California State University, Fullerton. A reception precedes her lecture from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Tran and UNI graduate students will lead an "Applied Mindfulness Workshop" from 4:30 to 5 p.m. following the keynote address.
