The "2019 Department of Art Faculty Exhibition" is a formal presentation of recent accomplishments by the faculty in the UNI Department of Art and includes painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media, performance and installation art as well as art history scholarship. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the Kamerick Art Building’s south lobby. All events are free and open to the public.

The Safe Zone Ally program is a campus-wide opportunity designed to support the continued growth of an inclusive campus community. The supports the university's value of cultivating a caring and diverse campus community that values respect for all people, the open and free exchange of ideas and responsible and ethical behavior. Phase One is an in-person, 1.5 hour training that provides basic knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community, establishes a common vocabulary for participant use and defines what it means to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. The Safe Zone Ally program is a campus-wide opportunity designed to support the continued growth of an inclusive campus community. The program supports the university's value of cultivating a caring and diverse campus community that values respect for all people, the open and free exchange of ideas and responsible and ethical behavior. Phase Two is scheduled for two hours, providing a deeper exploration of current issues, privilege and intersectionality, as well as challenging participants to think critically about their roles as allies. Participants in Phase Two training are given the opportunity to become Safe Zone Ally certified by signing an ally agreement stating their confidence in their ability to be a knowledgeable, responsible and committed ally. Visiting artist Øystein Baadsvik will present a tuba recital. Øystein Baadsvik is the only tuba player to have carved out a career exclusively as a soloist, rather than becoming a member of an orchestra or accepting a teaching post. His multi-faceted musical career as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist has taken him all over the world. The unique virtuosity and musicality Mr. Baadsvik brings to the tuba has established him as the exemplar of the instrument. This event is free and open to the public.

Observatory ShowObservatory Show

Learn about the objects visible in the night sky, and gaze at them through the computer controlled telescope at the Earth and Environmental Sciences Observatory. This event is free and open to the public; meet before 9 p.m. to get to the observatory (near the polar bear). No late admissions will be allowed; no food or drink and no cellphones or other electronic devices can be used during the observatory visit.
