There will be an opening reception on Wed., Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. following a public lecture by James Ewald, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Ewald’s lecture titled “Triple Double: Independent Publishing, Sensory Experiences, and Visual Narratives” will take place in KAB 111. In addition to Ewald, exhibitors include the following: Jessica Barness, UNI alumna and Associate Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University; Soo Hostetler, UNI Associate Professor of Art in Graphic Design; Riva Nayaju, UNI Assistant Professor of Art in Graphic Design; and Dr. Sang-Duck Seo, Professor in Graphic Design and Media at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Bernice Lerner is the former dean of adult learning at Hebrew College, former lecturer on the Holocaust at Boston University, and a senior scholar at Boston University's Center for Character and Social Responsibility. Eller is the author of the novel True North, which is set in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota. He’s also the author of the short story collection, Thin Ice and Other Risks. His writing has appeared in many publications, and he is the winner of the River City Award in Fiction, the Fowler Prize, and the Minnesota Voices Award, among others.

Visiting artist Ashley Killam will present a trumpet recital. Ashley Killam is an international speaker, trumpet player, entrepreneur, and drill designer based in Radford, Virginia. She is the President of Diversify the Stand, the General Manager for Rising Tide Music Press, and has spent her post-school years researching and presenting across the country. An advocate for creating change in music, Killam is passionate about building awareness for underrepresented voices in music and providing performers and educators resources to make ethical and sustainable changes in performing and teaching music. This event is free and open to the public.

Observatory ShowObservatory Show

View the evening sky at the UNI Observatory. Constellations and other interesting objects in the night sky will be pointed out, and objects may also be viewed through the UNI telescope. Meet before 9 PM outside of MSH 137, near the polar bear. The event starts promptly and there is no admission for late arrivals. Electronic devices, such as cameras, smart phones, etc, must not be used during the show. No food, or drink is allowed. This event is free and open to the public.
