There will be an opening reception on Wed., Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. following a public lecture by James Ewald, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Ewald’s lecture titled “Triple Double: Independent Publishing, Sensory Experiences, and Visual Narratives” will take place in KAB 111. In addition to Ewald, exhibitors include the following: Jessica Barness, UNI alumna and Associate Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University; Soo Hostetler, UNI Associate Professor of Art in Graphic Design; Riva Nayaju, UNI Assistant Professor of Art in Graphic Design; and Dr. Sang-Duck Seo, Professor in Graphic Design and Media at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

As part of the inaugural Young Readers and Writers being hosted by the Richard O. Jacobson Center for Comprehensive Literacy, acclaimed author Renee Watson will kickstart the event around 9:30 a.m. by sharing about her writing journey to help inspire the youth participants to write their own stories. Watson’s presentation is free and open to the public.
The center, part of the College of Education, expects 200 students from Waterloo and Cedar Falls community schools to participate in a variety of writing experiences while on campus at the Maucker Union Ballroom.
