There will be an opening reception on Wed., Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. following a public lecture by James Ewald, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Ewald’s lecture titled “Triple Double: Independent Publishing, Sensory Experiences, and Visual Narratives” will take place in KAB 111. In addition to Ewald, exhibitors include the following: Jessica Barness, UNI alumna and Associate Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University; Soo Hostetler, UNI Associate Professor of Art in Graphic Design; Riva Nayaju, UNI Assistant Professor of Art in Graphic Design; and Dr. Sang-Duck Seo, Professor in Graphic Design and Media at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

UNI’s Fast Forward Digital Media Workshop returns on Nov. 4 for expert media panels and demonstrations. The day-long event offers participants seven workshop sessions from which to choose, and a keynote discussion with Christopher Cook, the co-director of Kinnick: The Documentary (2022).
This year’s media workshop will feature sessions that include:
- Covering the News for Media Outlets
- Capturing and Editing Creative Content
- How to Improve On-Air Skills
- Producing Live Multi-Camera Broadcasts
- Sports Media Coverage
- Creating Long-Format Media (Shows, Documentaries and Films)
- Drones and New Technology
Panel guests include Nicole Agee, the Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter of KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids; Kelsey Hammer Parks, Emmy Award-winning creator at Kelsey Hammer Productions in Waterloo; Tyler Brinegar, producer and director, Iowa PBS; Zach Everman, founder of Pixel Labs in Cedar Falls; and Brad Wells, announcer for ESPN, NBC Chicago, Iowa PBS, and FloHoops.
Fast Forward is open to high school, community college and university students and staff at no cost, and a free lunch is provided. This annual event is sponsored by the UNI Department of Communication and Media, with the generous support of the Iowa Broadcasters Association Foundation. This free event will include informational breakout sessions on various music careers and the programs at UNI that can lead you to them. Participants will also have the chance to sit in on classes in their chosen area of focus, visit ensemble rehearsals including Choirs, Jazz Band Combo, Orchestra, and Panther Marching Band, meet with current students, and experience first-hand what it might be like to be a music major in college.
