The Art of C.H.A.N.G.E. Exhibit

Monday, October 16, 2023 - 12:00 am to Tuesday, October 31, 2023 - 11:59 pm

The  Art of C.H.A.N.G.E. exhibit will be available in-person in the Byrd Sanctuary in Kamerick Art Building and online at https://sites.google.com/uni.edu/theartofchange/home.

C. H. A. N. G. E. stands for "Challening Harmful Assault Narratives through Group Expression". The University of Northern Iowa’s (UNI) Office of Compliance and Equity Management (OCEM) is working to reduce and end sexual assault stigmas and myths on our campus. The goal of "The Art of CHANGE" is to give survivors and supporters a space to share their creative works concerning these hurtful myths, and to continue awareness and prevention efforts at UNI. The exhibit was conceptualized, created, and implemented by Karrah Bates, the 2020-21 Sexual Assault Prevention Graduate Assistant for the OCEM. The included works are by UNI students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Guest Recital: Jenny Klukken, percussion

Guest Recital: Jenny Klukken, percussion

Tuesday, October 17, 2023 - 8:00 pm

Visiting artist Jenny Klukken will offer a percussion recital. Klukken is a classically-trained marimbist who crosses over into jazz and world music. She approaches the marimba with as much versatility as a guitarist or pianist. Jenny composes and performs on the marimba, combining her classical percussion background with her passion for folk, jazz, and world music. In her unique approach, she bridges the gap between virtuosic marimba repertoire and improvised music-making. A recipient of various artistic development grants, Jenny has travelled the world to develop her voice on the marimba. As a composer, she embraces complex rhythms, improvisation, audience approachability, and the high technical skills the instrument demands. This event is free and open to the public.
