The Art of C.H.A.N.G.E. Exhibit

Monday, October 16, 2023 - 12:00 am to Tuesday, October 31, 2023 - 11:59 pm

The  Art of C.H.A.N.G.E. exhibit will be available in-person in the Byrd Sanctuary in Kamerick Art Building and online at https://sites.google.com/uni.edu/theartofchange/home.

C. H. A. N. G. E. stands for "Challening Harmful Assault Narratives through Group Expression". The University of Northern Iowa’s (UNI) Office of Compliance and Equity Management (OCEM) is working to reduce and end sexual assault stigmas and myths on our campus. The goal of "The Art of CHANGE" is to give survivors and supporters a space to share their creative works concerning these hurtful myths, and to continue awareness and prevention efforts at UNI. The exhibit was conceptualized, created, and implemented by Karrah Bates, the 2020-21 Sexual Assault Prevention Graduate Assistant for the OCEM. The included works are by UNI students, faculty, staff and alumni.

The Travails of Translation: How do Historians Work With Ancient Texts?

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 - 7:00 pm

Phi Alpha Theta Series Lecture: "The Travails of Translation: How do Historians Work With Ancient Texts?" by Professor Kenneth Atkinson
Zoom Webinar: registration link coming shortly but you can add the Event to your Google Calendar to receive reminders.
Lecture summary: Is your Bible translation accurate? How do scholars translate the Bible? Do they know what they are doing? Professor Kenneth Atkinson of UNI's Department of History will discuss his international work as a Bible translator. In this presentation, he will show how scholars reconstruct and interpret the oldest biblical manuscripts and render them into English. Professor Atkinson promises not to bore you with detailed linguistic examinations of biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Instead, he has designed the presentation for a popular audience to help you better understand your English Bible and whether it is accurate.
