“Jazz in Seerley Park” Returns on Sunday, Aug. 25

SEERLEY PARK, CEDAR FALLS—Esteemed UNI jazz faculty and nationally recognized veteran artists will bring six hours of jazz to Seerley Park on Sunday, Aug. 25, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Three food trucks will supply a rich choice of foods, and local vendors–even kid vendors–will offer additional baked goods, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and hand-made products from jewelry to face painting. The kid-friendly event will also offer chalk art organized by the Hearst Center. People are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and chairs. The event is free and open to the public.

The jazz line up is as follows:

  • 11:00-12:00: DJ Pals Octopus DJ Brian Pals will set the mood with an hour of vintage jazz recordings while food vendors and concert goers pick their spots on the Seerley Park lawn.
  • 12:15-1:15  Rosewood Novelty Band, a xylophone-driven ragtime ensemble featuring Matt Andreini, UNI Percussion instructor and WCF Symphony Percussionist.
  • 1:30-2:30  The Mike Conrad Trio, a dynamic trio featuring Conrad on keyboard, Katie Ernst (Chicago bassist, Twin Talk) and Cassius Goens III (Indianapolis-based drummer).
  •  2:45-3:45  Get up Get Down, a jazzy funk band formed in 2022 by drummer Don Colton and guitarist Jon Chamberlain, will be joined by Devin Ferguson on bass and Simon Harding on woodwinds and keyboards. The band’s name reflects their energetic and groovy sound, which blends jazz harmonies with the funk rhythms of the ’70s.
  • 4:00-5:00  Bob Washet’s Emeritet, a jazz quintet comprised of UNI faculty and alumni, including Washut on keyboard, Chris Merz on saxophone, Mike Conrad on trombone, and Dave Tiede on drums.
