Title: Globalizing Teacher Education: Designing High-Impact Virtual Exchange Programs

Here is the abstract: This discussion will present the in-process development of a virtual exchange opportunity for a teacher education course focused on second language and literacy development, scheduled for Fall 2025. Building on concepts of transnational teacher education and border pedagogy, this session will offer a concrete example of how virtual exchange can create accessible, justice-oriented teaching and learning partnerships. The presenter will serve as a facilitator, sharing the process, challenges, and goals for building a collaboration that centers multilingual learners' knowledge and resists deficit-based narratives. In the current politicized climate of anti-immigration in the U.S., finding ways to internationalize education is more crucial than ever. The virtual exchange opportunity serves as a direct counter-narrative, promoting global understanding and empathy by providing a safe space for cross-cultural collaboration and challenging isolationist ideologies. This is an opportunity for TESOL professionals to engage with the practical application of theory, collectively problem-solve implementation issues, and explore how these models can improve professional development and advocate for policy changes that benefit both teachers and students.
