Physics Colloquium

Physics Colloquium

Wednesday, September 2, 2020 - 4:00 pm

Research Presentation by Dr. Lisa Kopf, UNI Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Title: Designing a Persuasive Systems for Voice Disorder Prevention

Abstract: Occupational voice users, such as teachers and salespeople, make up a third of the workforce. The increased job-related vocal demands increase their risk for developing voice disorders. Principles of user-centered design, designing a system with input from the end user throughout the design process, and serious game design, designing games for purposes such as supporting user motivation, can enhance mobile health systems to support the needs of both populations at risk for voice disorders. Combining these approaches with the best objective measures for analyzing the voice should create a system that is both user friendly and helpful in teaching the user about how he/she uses the voice.
