The film’s predecessor was the first superhero film in more than a decade to feature a female hero, and this sequel’s continues that legacy by once again showcasing women as powerful, heroic, smart and strong as Diana deals with a cursed object, a power-hungry oil tycoon wannabee named Maxwell Lord, an insecure and harassed geologist, Barbara Minerva a.k.a ‘Cheetah’ and a blast from her romantic past in the film’s two-and-half-hour runtime. Mentors in Violence Prevention: Train-the-Trainer Workshop

Friday, September 10, 2021 - 3:00 pm to Saturday, September 11, 2021 - 4:00 pm

The Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Strategies model was developed in the early 1990s by Jackson Katz and colleagues at Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts. MVP is based on a peer leadership model that focuses on the role of the “bystander” when harmful or abusive language and behaviors are present. The model seeks to empower those who might otherwise be silent observers to situations where bullying and gender violence is unfolding. MVP has been implemented in high school settings, college settings, the U.S. military and within professional sports.

This 2-day workshop will meet: Friday, September 10, 2021, 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 11, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, September 29, 2021 - 7:00 pm

TheatreUNI will present “A Small Pair of Feet in the Middle of the Sea” by Kit Steinkeller at 7 p.m., Sept. 29 - Oct. 2 and on Oct. 3  at 2 p.m. in the Arts Triangle Courtyard on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

“A Small Pair of Feet in the Middle of the Sea” is a “deconstruction” of the Greek myth of Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun, written by Kit Steinkeller (the creator of the television series “Sorry for Your Loss”).  Described by the author as a “whimsical drama,” the play, at times deeply silly and at times very sad, asks questions about the essential nature of truth, the lies we tell ourselves and the enduring power of story and myth.

“A Small Pair of Feet”  is the first offering of TheatreUNI’s 2021-2022  season and the first live theatre production since the start of the pandemic.  The production is directed by Matthew James Weedman, associate professor of performance. Scenic design is by Mark Parrott, associate professor of design, and costume design is by Megan Gilchrist, a senior design and production student.  Lighting design is by Ron Koinzen  and the production stage manager is Olivia McQuerry. This play will be produced outdoors.

Tickets are $15 for chairs, $10 for stair seats (cushions available), $6 for ground seats (bring your own blanket) and free for UNI students with their student ID. Tickets can be purchased from the UNITix website and at the UNItix counter in the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

The bombs have been dropped, and now you are stuck with the last person you would want to be trapped with waiting for help. It was a lovely day in the park. Now you have to talk. Remember those conversations you should have had? Now's your chance. Whether you like it or not, for better or for worse. Awkward silences and cold shoulders abound. It's going to get weird. A play in One Act.
