Out of the Darkness WalkOut of the Darkness Walk
Saturday, April 1, 2023 - 10:00 am
Out of the Darkness is an on-campus student organization which raises awareness and funds for suicide prevention through the American Foundation for Suicide Awareness. The purpose of this signature event is to engage young adults in AFSP's mission and programs, raise funds for youth suicide prevention and programs, create a brand identity for AFSP fundraising, maximize fundraising success and laying the ground work for AFSP's educational programming and chapters in the future. At the end of the fundraising year OOTD hold a campus walk where efforts will be celebrated and participants will walk in solidarity for those lost to suicide and/or struggling with mental health. Campus walks will dramatically increase the number of young people involved in AFSP and the amount of funds available for suicide prevention research and education; both are needed to save lives. Why Walk? To change the culture. To save lives. To revent suicide. We all have a reason to walk, and each reason connects us.

UNI Interpreters Theatre Presents: Two-FacedUNI Interpreters Theatre Presents: Two-Faced
Saturday, April 1, 2023 - 7:30 pm
Written and Directed by Holden McGraw
A mysterious man forces four best friends to reveal terrible secrets they have all been keeping from each other. What could go wrong? With a concept fit for the Twilight Zone, this one-act play challenges ideas of friendship, loyalty, and honesty as one by one the people these girls thought they knew turn out to be horrifying and downright deceiving. In order to discover the truth, the girls must contemplate this very question: how two-faced can we truly be?
The show is free, but seating is limited. Reservations can be made through Eventbrite.

Who is a Sincere Believer?: On Religious Freedom and its Limits--a Conversation with Charles McCraryWho is a Sincere Believer?: On Religious Freedom and its Limits--a Conversation with Charles McCrary
Monday, April 3, 2023 - 5:00 pm
In Indiana, liberal Jews are arguing that a law banning abortion violates their religious freedom, including their sincere belief in bodily autonomy. In Arizona, a group of Native Americans protest the construction of a copper mine, since it will destroy land they sincerely believe to be sacred. Throughout the country, white evangelicals argue their sincere beliefs entitle them to disobey antidiscrimination laws. Under the law, who gets to be considered a "sincere believer," and what do sincere believers get to do? This talk will explore the history and contemporary politics behind these vexing questions.
Charles McCrary is a postdoctoral research scholar at the Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict at Arizona State University. He is the author of Sincerely Held: American Secularism and Its Believers (University of Chicago Press, 2022).
