Applied Arts Group Exhibition Opening and Curatorial Talk
We will kick it off with a short talk in KAB 111 featuring the curators, Professors Aaron Wilson and Tim Dooley, Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer, who designed the catalog and are exhibiting work in the show, as well alumni Shawn Reed and Ryan Garbes whose work is also featured in the exhibition.
Other exhibitors include; the duo Gfeller + Hellsgård based in Berlin, Chloë Lum & Yannick Desranleau based in Edmonton, Canada, Bráulio Amado, a Portuguese illustrator and designer based in NYC, Suzy Poling out of Detroit, and last, but not least, Robert Beatty who will be our next Hearst Visiting Artist this February. A quick browse of the links for the featured artists will reveal that they are all multi-disciplinary, making work which interweaves genres and crossfades and nudges the boundaries between fine and commercial art.
The show includes hand-pulled prints (two of which are massive and pasted directly to the gallery wall!), graphic design, illustration, video, artist’s books, textiles and wearable art. We can’t wait to share it with you. The limited edition catalog, pictured, which is really a 64 page art book, featuring the work of all the artists plus two inserted risographic prints, will be available first come, first serve.
