Erin Brockovich will serve as the spring keynote for the Aldo Leopold Distinguished Lecture Series "The Power of One". The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are free of charge and will be available at all UNItix locations beginning Jan. 27.

Thursday, February 27, 2020 - 9:30 am to 1:30 pm

The 14th Annual African American Read-In  at UNI celebrates African American authors, illustrators and literacy during Black History Month. First graders attend to hear individualized reading by UNI students, faculty, staff and celebrity readers. This year's featured speaker is Ty Allan, an award-winning children's book author, literacy advocate, publisher and motivational speaker.

The UNI event is part of the National African American Read-In which is sponsored by the Black Caucus and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and endorsed by the International Reading Association. More than one million readers from all races, ethnic groups and states participate in the national read-in annually.  It is held in conjunction with the African American Children and Families Conference at UNI.

Fed up with the world he lives in, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway. Come join Film Appreciation Club in a screening of this animated adventure classic!

Saturday, February 29, 2020 - 1:00 pm

This presentation will include the history and establishment of the Tall Grass Prairie, how people can connect with a guide and what visitors will experience at the prairie. The series is free and open to the public. Free parking and handicapped accessibility are available.

Conductor John Wiles will lead the UNI Concert Chorale in a performance of David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion. This intense choral work is based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, "The Little Match Girl". It is influenced by Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2008. This event is free and open to the public.

Each spring, UNI recognizes outstanding student leadership through a series of awards presented to students and student organizations. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the social period begins at 7 p.m. and the program begins at 7:30pm.
