Other dates include October 15 – November 6 and December 2 – 15. “The Earth is a House of Stories: Works from the Permanent Art Collection by Native Artists” was co-curated by Angela Waseskuk and Gallery Director Darrell Taylor. This exhibition highlights objects from the Collection and the UNI Museum by historical and contemporary Native artists. Showcasing these works is part of a university-wide effort to adopt a university Land Stewardship Statement while continuing to build and honor respectful and nourishing partnerships with the Meskwaki Nation and Native people in Iowa.

Lifelong University Course - Where Does My Food Come From?

Gardening, cooking nutrition, sustainability and fun all rolled into one class.   Join us for this three session course which will teach participants about growing their own garden, discuss our current food supply system, alternative food systems, shopping local options and how to stretch local food through Iowa winters.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in growing produce with hands on activities in the garden each day.  We will discuss nutrition ideas for healthy living by exploring lesser known produce items and garden favorites and by cooking various dishes for lunch.

Naoko Fugimoto Poetry Reading

Naoko Fujimoto reads from her latest book Glyph: Graphic Poetry=Trans. Sensory (Tupelo Press, 2021). The event will take place in person in the Bartlett Courtyard and simultaneously on Zoom. Fujimoto’s poetry combines words with handmade images to create new experiences with a traditional Japanese style of Emaki. Emaki is an illustrated text, where pictures are drawn on a scroll, conveying a story and side-stories. This event is funded by the Dr. H. W. Reninger Endowed Lecture Series and sponsored by the Department of Languages & Literatures, the North American Review, and the English Club. Copies of the North American Review’s Fall 2021 issue will be available at the event, which includes Fujimoto’s graphic poem “Offshore of Rikuzentakata.” The UNI Bookstore will also be at the event to sell Fujimoto’s most recent book, Glyph: Graphic Poetry=Trans. We are thrilled to welcome you back to the Great Hall at the Gallagher Bluedorn for the return of our live, in-person Scholarship Benefit Concert: Better Together! We truly believe this will be a special evening of reconnecting and celebrating with some exceptional music. The concert will include performances by the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, UNI Opera, Wind Ensemble, UNI Singers, Concert Chorale, and Jazz Band One, with featured faculty artists Sean Botkin, Kramer Milan and Matthew Andreini. Please join us for this exciting event and help to support student scholarships at UNI’s School of Music.
