UNI’s College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, Educational Opportunity Center and Center for Urban Education are bringing together Cedar Valley elected officials, local leaders, and some of our best practitioners to review historical policies, unpack current realities and share their efforts at moving us towards a society without violence. Participants will be able to identify the root causes of violence, be able to inform and influence future policies, and create a culture to protect vulnerable communities.

Green Dot is an NISG-sponsored bystander intervention program focused on gender violence prevention. The goal of Green Dot is to decrease the likelihood of sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic abuse. The Green Dot Student Overview training session is a presentation that introduces basic elements of Green Dot while using skill building activities to keep participants engaged. The basic elements of the presentation are to provide a new/different framework of bystander intervention, to create campus-wide interest and participation, and begin the process of changing behaviors. This Green Dot Overview is open to any faculty and staff.

Green Dot is an NISG-sponsored bystander intervention program focused on gender violence prevention. The goal of Green Dot is to decrease the likelihood of sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic abuse. The Green Dot Bystander training consists of brief lectures, individual reflection, small group interaction, and energetic activities. It is designed to use the lens of being a bystander as the primary frame of reference. This training is guided by the question “What does the participant(s) need to know in order to increase the likelihood of effective proactive and reactive bystander interventions in response to power-based interpersonal violence?” This Green Dot Bystander Workshop is open to any students.

Dr. Vagharsh Mkhitaryan, Research Scientist at the University of Regensburg, Germany will be presenting on Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs): A model system for room-temperature quantum spin physics.
After briefly discussing the physics behind the OLED functionality and its basic optoelectronic properties, he will focus on the magnetic resonance studies of spin-dependent pathways of electron-hole bound state (exciton) formation and exciton-charge carrier quenching processes, which are pivotal to the OLED functionality.

Observatory ShowObservatory Show

View the evening sky at the UNI Observatory. Constellations and other interesting objects in the night sky will be pointed out, and objects may also be viewed through the UNI telescope. Electronic devices, such as cameras, smart phones, etc, must not be used during the show. No food, or drink is allowed. This event is free and open to the public.
